Community Pride

Rooted Learning

What Are We in Danger of Losing?
-
Vanishing Stories
When firsthand voices fade, so do the lessons, struggles, and triumphs that shaped who we are as a people. -
Disconnected Youth
Without a strong tie to place and heritage, the next generation risks growing up without roots or a clear identity. -
Empty Landmarks
Historic buildings and grounds become shells when not actively maintained or given a voice through community engagement. -
Fading Traditions
As elders pass and customs go undocumented, Louisiana’s unique cultural fabric begins to unravel. -
Missed Opportunities
Schools, families, and tourists lose out on powerful, place-based learning experiences that can’t be replicated in textbooks. -
Eroded Community Pride
When heritage is neglected, the community’s shared sense of pride and belonging quietly slips away.
Our Mission in Action

Protect the Past
Active restoration and conservation of the site and surrounding grounds.

Teach the Present
Workshops, guided experiences, and student collaborations.

Inspire the Future
Programs that pass on historical values to future generations.

About Fort Jesup
Fort Jesup is a living chapter of American history. Once a key military post on the edge of the western frontier, it now serves to preserve and share the powerful stories that helped shape Louisiana and the nation. It is more than just a historic site. It is a place where the past speaks, where community meets culture, and where history feels close enough to touch.
Our team is dedicated to keeping that legacy alive through engaging exhibits, local partnerships, and a strong focus on public education. Every visit opens the door to real stories of strength, service, and everyday life from nearly two centuries ago.
Many come with questions and leave with connection. If you have ever wondered what life was really like during those early years of American expansion, this is your place to discover it.
